Biostratigraphy / Sequence Stratigraphy

Blake Geological Services LLC has over 40 years of experience reviewing

biostratigraphic reports and integrating the data with well logs and seismic

interpretations.  Also, we used a sequence stratigraphic approach to identify key

source rock intervals;  potential  reservoir intervals; and important stratigraphic

gaps in the overall depositional interval.

Biostratigraphic Interpretation
& Integration

  • Ability to increase correlation potential through the review of biostratigraphic reports and the integration of the stratigraphic data with well logs and seismic interpretation

  • Review and re-evaluation of vintage biostratigraphic data from previous analyses

  • Application of high resolution biostratigraphic and lithostratigraphic data allows for the identification of breaks in sedimentation and unconformities and calibration to the sequence stratigraphy

  • Integration of paleobathymetric interpretations from biostratigraphic data with well logs and seismic data to build depositional environmental models

Sequence Stratigraphic
Interpretation & Integration

  • A firm basis for dating seismic surfaces essential for regional correlation

    • sequence Stratigraphic Framework

    • depositional environments

    • identifiy MFS / Condensed Zone

    • identify Key Sequence Boundaries

  • Geological record is composed of depositional package bounded by
    stratal events

  • Stratal stacking packages result
from interaction of eustatic sea level,
    basin tectonics accommodation space,
    and sediment supply

Biostratigraphic Data Acquisition & Interpretation
Fossil Range Chart (From BugWare)
Biostrat Summary Chart (From BugWare)
  • Quantitative analyses of benthic and planktonic foraminifera, especially for the western US, predominately onshore and offshore California

  • Foraminiferal Distribution data are delivered in BugWare ™ format.  Summary Charts are provide TSCreator ™ software

  • Paleoenvironmental interpretations using a number of statistical methods and integration of benthic foraminiferal with well logs and seismic interpretations

  • Based on networking within the biostratigraphic community,  other microfossil disciplines (nannofossils, siliceous microfossils and palynology) can be added to the analysis which provides an integrated biostratigraphic high-resolution regional chronostratigraphic framework that is essential for more accurate age determinations
