Regional Studies

Blake Geological Services LLC can either independently build a GIS - based regional basin analysis or assist in-house teams in a regional assessment of a particular part of a continental margin or specific basin(s).  Any regional evaluation will be based on a petroleum systems approach with the identification and the distribution of the important play fairways using GIS technologies.

Play Fairway Anaylsis -  Sweet Spot Identification

(From GIS-pax)

Stratigraphic Distribution of Critical Petroleum System Elements
  • Regional/Sub-regional assessments have a focus on basin definition, play fairway analysis, and play concepts for the assessments:

    • emphasis is on the interpretation and integration of well data, cores, geochemical data, biostratigraphy, and outcrops and, if available, seismic data

    • when applicable, the mapping of 2-D and 3-D seismic data will be used to build the structural framework of the area of interest (AOI)

    • regional evaluations will be based on GIS technologies which will be used for the integration of spatial data types: gravity and magnetics, tectonic framework, structural features, depositional environments, petroleum systems models, and if available, seismic data

    • gross depositional environment (GDE) maps will be built from seismic, well and other geologic data

  • petroleum systems approach will be utilized for the mapping critical petroleum system factors to identify critical issues

    • the integrated GIS project will be used to create common risk segment (CRS) maps to identify the critical risks associated with the regional AOI

    • the petroleum elements CRS maps will be integrated to identify the areas with the most exploration potential as the lowest geologic risk (exploration "sweet" spot)

  • Deliverables will include a written report, regional summary map in GIS based on data and information contained in an associated geodatabase;  GIS Projects can be published using ArcReader, which is free software
